Born and raised in Fukuoka Prefecture, Mayumi Shiraishi grew up surrounded by abundant nature before she moved to the United States.
While staying in the US, she realized the unique Japanese color sense and the sensitivity of the five senses, and once again discovered the wounderfulness of Japan.
After returning to Japan, she studied Yuzen, and while still respecting traditional techniques, she developed her original techniques and dyes.
She went beyond the boundaries of traditional Japanese crafts, sublimating them into various art pieces such as murals and objet d’art, and has become a one-of-a-kind dyeing artist.
Her works, created using the same technique as dying kimono, are composed of harmonious colors that are typical of Japan and the bold compositions unique to Mayumi Shiraishi, and give viewers a sense of overwhelming creativity.
Her refined, elegant and original works have won numerous grand prizes and awards.
She is an artist who is currently attracting attention from all over the world, and her works have exhibited at the World Heritage Site of Mt. Koya.
